24th November 2012 – U11 North Nowra Cambewarra Blues VS Berry/Shoalhaven Heads

This weekend the North Nowra Cambewarra Blues U11 team took on the Berry Magpies. The scene was set, with a cloudless sky and sensational conditions for Saturday morning cricket. The job ahead was to de-feather the black and white maggies. And that’s exactly what we did. If you read on, you’ll see how we clinically and methodically disposed of them by over 98 runs.

As usual, we won the toss. Equally as usual was our indecision of what to do once we won the toss. However, after some long and careful thinking, Tully Dennis said “OK we’ll bat……. second”. Meaning, we’ll field!

Our bowling was very consistent with everyone chipping in and contributing well. Troy Sweet and Toby Huard both bowled the stumps down twice in successive balls, giving them both exciting hat-trick opportunities. But unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for another day to see that celebration. Toby Huard bowled one delivery so fast, that it went through the middle and off-stump without the bales dislodging. Advice for Toby. It pays to hit the middle stump cleanly! Other good bowling efforts included Jack Sweet and Tully Dennis with sharp and tight deliveries. Harry Evans and Alexander Jelavic bowled the stumps down as well.

In the batting, we had Micah Edwards smashing the ball about, scoring heaps of runs. Cameron Murray scoring and running well. Jacob hitting the ball cleanly along with Tully Dennis. Jack Walsh hit one over the umpires head. If the square boundary was as short as at the Adelaide Oval, it would have been a six. Too bad, we were playing at Berry Sporting Complex with paddocks of space and long boundaries. Harry Evans was consistent as usual, scoring quite a few runs.

So, a convincing win to North Nowra Cambewarra U11 Blues this week, 8/160 to 11/62. Despite the fact that Berry are the magpies. Despite the fact they were wearing black and white. Despite the fact they reminded us of Collingwood. Despite all this, the Berry team was a pleasure to play against, and we look forward to the next clash late in the season.
